UCA and CEI·MAR meet in Cadiz with the Commission of Industry, Telecommunications, Research and Energy of the European Parliament

The University of Cadiz and the International Campus of Excellence of the Sea have met today in the capital of Cadiz with a delegation of the Commission of Industry, Telecommunications, Research and Energy of the European Parliament (ITRE) which, between the 2nd and the 4th November visit Spain and Portugal with the purpose of compiling information for the writing of a document about the implementation of the Financing and the Innovation’s Programme of the European Union named Horizon 2020. This way, successes and difficulties will be analysed for the intermediate evaluation in order to define the next Framework Program for the 2021-2027 period.
For that, UCA and CEI·MAR have designed an intense agenda with the aim of analysing the potentialities and future perspectives of the Programme. This morning, four members of the European Parliament (the Spaniards Soledad Cabezón and Ernest Maragall along with the Belgian Bárbara Kudrycka and the Polish Lieve Wierinck) have met members of the University of Cadiz and the International Campus of Excellence of the Sea. This way, the University of Cadiz have organised the first meeting, which counted with the participation of every institution of the Campus to present its vision about Horizon 2020, such as some recommendations to improve several issues that difficult the participation of these institutions in projects of the biggest European Programme of Research and Innovation, gifted with a 76.880 million of euros budget.
This first meeting has count with the presence of the vice rector of Research –Casimiro Mantell-, the director of the UCA’s International Projects Office –Jesús Medina-, the coordinator of CEI·MAR–Fidel Echevarría-, the manager of CEI·MAR –Ana Arellano-, besides the coordinators of the International Campus of Excellence of the Sea in the universities of Granada, Malaga, Almeria, Huelva and do Algarve and the directors of the Marine Observatory –José Martín Dávila- the Hydrographic Institute of the Marine –Juan Antonio Aguilar-, the Spanish Institute of Oceanography in Cadiz –Ignacio Sobrino-, of the Marine Science Institute of Andalusia –Julián Blasco- the Subaquatic Archaeology Centre –Carmen García-, the Andalusian Centre of Environment –Miguel Ángel Losada- and the Sciences and Marine Technologies Centre –Miguel Bruno-.
In the afternoon, the European Parliament’s Delegation have planned having another meeting with the vice rectors of Research of all the Andalusian universities along with the general manager of Research and Knowledge Transfer of the Ministry of Economy and Knowledge of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Manuel García León.
