The ecological asphalt gives better results

The National Association of companies in the sector of asphalt mixtures (Asefma) has awarded the University of Huelva with Best Environmental Practices Award III.

The award refers to the project Plastic Road «Reuse of agricultural plastic waste in the manufacture of bituminous mixtures for use in roads following the technology by dry» and recognizes the work done by scientists UHU in the use of agricultural plastics improving road conditions and duration.

The project manager in the UHU is Pedro Partal, member of the Campus of International Excellence of the Sea (CEIMAR) and Agri-Food (ceiA3), which has worked together with his research group, with the Public Works Agency Board Andalusia and the company Eiffage Infraestructuras, a French multinational and one of the largest in the world of asphalt.

This project is funded by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing and Feder Funds of the European Union and is aimed at industrial use of recycled polymers (from agricultural plastic waste) as modifiers of bitumen used for paving roads.
