Universities of Cadiz and Ferrara launch a program of international Ph.D.

They have today signed an agreement to promote a dual degree in Earth Sciences and the Sea in 2015/16. Both sides already cooperate in the delivery of the Master in Integrated Management of Coastal Areas

The University of Cadiz and the University of Ferrara (Italy) have signed a collaboration agreement for the realization of an international doctoral program in the next academic year 2015/16 with a dual degree in Earth Sciences and rector in Mar. functions of the UCA, Eduardo González Mazo, accompanied by the Vice Chancellor of International Relations of the Italian institution, Franco Mantovani, has signed the agreement this morning at the rectory.

González Mazo has declared his satisfaction with «the excellent academic relations, scientific and institutional links between the universities of Cadiz and Ferrara. An academic cooperation that comes from afar and now curdled with the launch of an international doctoral program». Specifically, already it existed between the two sides a double master’s degree in Integrated Management of Coastal Areas, which has enabled Italian and Spanish students get this double recognition along several editions of the graduate. Mobility has also reached teachers.

International PhD in Earth Sciences and the Sea, which has the support of the International Campus of Excellence of the Sea (CEI.Mar), will allow «students of one or another university enrolled in the program obtained after defending his doctoral thesis, a dual degree PhD, «stressed the rector of the UCA. Students must perform at least 600 hours of training through participation in courses, stays, seminars, conferences and similar activities. The agreement also includes four scholarships for doctoral candidates for each doctoral cycle (three by the University of Ferrara and by the University of Cádiz).

This program is expected to become an International Doctorate Erasmus Mundus, with the participation of a third European university linked to CEI.Mar.

The acting rector said that this agreement affects the double strategic priority for the University of Cádiz: internationalization and promotion of studies related to the sea from its role of university coordinator of the Campus of International Excellence del Mar.
